Critically acclaimed for her portrayal of Hecuba, Queen of Troy in English Touring Opera's 2014 Olivier Award winning production of King Priam, Laure joined the roster of the Metropolitan Opera, New York in the 2012-2013 season to cover Ariel in The Tempest (Thomas Adès) and covered the same role for the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden.
Her Royal Opera debut was as Queen of Night in The Magic Flute, a role she has performed with English National Opera, Welsh National Opera, and Opera North.
Laure has sung many new works, including the world premiere of Patience & Sarah at the Lincoln Center Festival in New York, and Kaye in the American premiere of John Metcalf’s Kafka’s Chimp.
Other work in the United States includes Volpino Lo Speziale (Haydn) with the Orchestra of St. Luke’s in New York’s Town Hall, High Priestess Aïda for Florentine Opera of Milwaukee, Frasquita Carmen for Aspen Music Festival, and Adina, Marquise de Cathe Un Giorno di Regno (Verdi), Elsie Maynard Yeoman of the Guard for Bronx Opera.
She has appeared as Lucia for Pavilion Opera, Fiordiligi with Swansea City Opera, and Dido in Dido and Aeneas at the Goodnestone Festival. In continental Europe, she has toured as Despina with Il Teatro Lirico d’Europa. Other roles include the title roles in Lulu and The Cunning Little Vixen, Zerbinetta- Ariadne auf Naxos, Madame Mao -Nixon in China, Janine/Ofwarren- A Handmaid’s Tale, Tytania in A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Norina, Goldentrill -Impresario, Constanze -Die Entführung aus dem Serail, Marie- La Fille du Regiment, Miss Schlesen -Satyagraha, Venus/Geppo- Le Grand Macabre and Hilde Mack -Elegy for Young Lovers.
Concert and oratorio appearances include Vaughan Williams Sea Symphony (Canterbury Cathedral), Carmina Burana, Mozart Mass in C Minor (Canterbury Cathedral), Poulenc Gloria (Minnesota Public Radio Broadcast), Haydn Creation (Bronxnet Television Broadcast), and Rutter Gloria (Minnesota Public Radio Broadcast).
In addition to performances broadcast on radio and television, her voice was featured in the BBC/Sony pictures film ‘Rocketmen.’
Recent projects include the CD 'Sorcery & Seduction,' (available on CD Baby, Amazon, Spotify and iTunes) recitals at the Canterbury Festival and St. Pancras Church, London, the World Premiere of a new art song by American opera composer Paula Kimper at the National Opera Center in New York, a concert with Thomas Adés based on The Tempest for Le Poisson Rouge, New York, a concert based on The Tempest for The Shakespeare Society of New York and Queen of Night for English Touring Opera.
Future engagements include covering Ariel The Tempest for the Vienna Staatsoper, and premieres and recordings of new art songs in the UK and USA.
Ms. Meloy holds a Bachelor of Music (cum laude) from Central Michigan University, a Master of Music degree from the University of Minnesota, and did further post-graduate study at the Manhattan School of Music. She maintains private teaching studios in both Canterbury and London, and has been on staff in the music department of Canterbury Christ Church University and the performing arts department of Canterbury College. She works with students of all levels and abilities, from beginner to young professional.
