Nicholas Bayley is Principal Double Bass of the BBC Symphony Orchestra.
After graduating from the Royal Northern College of Music he was appointed Principal Bass with the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, and then with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra. He frequently performs a guest principal and has guest lead the bass sections of many of the U.K.’s finest orchestras including the London Symphony Orchestra, Philharmonia Orchestra, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, and Academy of St Martin-in-the-Fields.
In addition to orchestral playing Nicholas is active as a soloist. Icelandic composer Hafliði Hallgrímsson wrote his double bass concerto for him which he premiered with the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, and his solo album, 20th Century Romantics, is available on the Nimbus label.
