About Nicholas Mulroy

Born in Liverpool, Nicholas studied Modern Languages at Cambridge and voice at the RAM.

Recent engagements have included Bach Christmas Oratorio with the ACO in Australia, Monteverdi Vespers in the Salzburg Festival, Schubert songs (also for BBC Radio 3) and Britten’s complete Canticles at the Wigmore Hall, and Rameau Hippolyte et Aricie at the Opéra de Paris. 

He has sung with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, the RSNO, the Britten Sinfonia, BBCNOW and the Auckland, Wroclaw, Brussels and BBC Philharmonic Orchestras, and has enjoyed prolonged collaborations with Sir John Eliot Gardiner, John Butt, Jordi Savall, Paul McCreesh, Laurence Cummings, Andrzej Kosendiak and Emmanuelle Haïm. 

He recently sang the title role of Monteverdi’s L’Orfeo in Australia and sang Janacek’s Diary of one who Vanished for the Philharmonia and for Glyndebourne Festival Opera. Recordings include a Gramophone Award-winning Messiah, as well as Evangelist in the Matthew Passion and John Passion, the title role in Acis and Galatea, and Bach cantatas (Actus Tragicus and Oster-Oratorium) for SDG. 

His teaching and coaching work has included masterclasses at Cambridge University, work with the Wroclaw Philharmonic Choir, the Sestina Consort (Belfast), the National Youth Choir of Poland, Dartington International Summer Schools, and at Basel’s Schola Cantorum. Having directed the choir there for three years, he is now a Musician in Residence of Girton College, Cambridge.
