Shape your mind

By Alison Gordon  -  17 March 2015

Most of us, if not all, will experience performance nerves at some point in our education and/or career.

Those of us who have, know it's not pleasant!

Let's face it... we do all the work, the hours of thoughtful practice, we know we can do it, we even WANT to do it, but sometimes, when it comes to that moment, we step onto the platform and something completely bizarre happens.

Alison age 65?...

It's almost as if our body becomes possessed. We become unable to move our limbs normally, our mouth dries up, we shake, we feel if playing a musical instrument wasn't difficult enough?!

It all happens because we care so much about what we do and how we are perceived. How ironic it is we are then able to unwittingly sabotage it so spectacularly, on occasions!

Why do all these physical challenges arise? Quite simply because of the mind/body connection. Take one example; we know we are about to go on stage, our heart rate starts to rise, there's an increase of blood flow to our skin and we sweat in an attempt to cool down. It's a very impressive and complicated chain of events. Our body is extraordinarily clever in it's complexity, but in this instance extremely unhelpful.

So we've established the mind creates the problem. In fact, the mind (although a very useful tool on occasions) creates most of our problems.

Now for the good news!

The fantastic news is, the solution lies within each and every one of us. We are used to believing our mind all the time as we've never been taught otherwise. That 'voice' that sounds like us, surely must be who we are? But what if we dropped that perception and experienced something else? After all, what we've been doing so far isn't necessarily giving us a life free from stress and anxiety.

Shape your Mind guides you in changing your relationship with your mind.  Instead of having to fix, change and improve your thoughts, emotions and life circumstances BEFORE calm and confidence is possible, we can instantly engage with life in a completely different way by using a meditation technique called Mind Calm.

Mind Calm is a modern day meditation which is simple to use, it's fun to learn and can be used anywhere at any time with either eyes open or eyes closed.  It gives peace 'with' mind so you experience your inner source of calm, confidence and contentment right here, right now - no matter what the circumstances are. The conditions we need in place in order for us to feel confident no longer exist. We stop resisting life so much, we sleep better, we use much less energy and therefore have so much more energy!

This is not just about performance nerves, it's so much more and can completely transform your experience of life. [Besides, it is thought that the first year of meditating can take up to 7 years off your age. I mean, I'm 65!! ...]

Mind Calm is one of the best meditation techniques available for musicians. It is a specific tool, which can be used on stage in performance and people often comment they experience instant results from the day they start to use it.
